Biden on delicate mission to defuse tensions in East Asia

(Reuters) – U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will seek a delicate balance between calming military tensions with China and backing ally Japan against Beijing on a trip to Asia this week that is being overshadowed by a territorial row in the East China Sea.

Japan reiterated on Monday that Tokyo and Washington had both rejected Beijing’s move to set up an air defense zone that includes islands at the heart of a bitter Sino-Japanese feud – despite the fact that three U.S. airlines, acting on government advice, are notifyingChina of plans to transit the zone.

Washington said over the weekend this did not mean U.S. acceptance of the zone, and last week sent two B-52 bombers into the area without informing China.

Adam Lanza Was a Psychopath

The real reasons behind his actions at Sandy Hook

“A 48-page report released on Monday by the state’s attorney in Danbury, Stephen J. Sedensky III,offers a vivid and chilling portrait of the young man responsible for one of the nation’s worst mass shootings…The report notes that while ’significant mental health issues’ affected his ability to live a normal life and interact with others, it remained unclear if they contributed in any way to his actions last December.” - New York Times, 11/25/13

How the Obvious Becomes Mysterious

Even after the release of the official state report on the Sandy Hook massacre, many are still asking the most fundamental & seemingly confounding questions about the tragedy. Why did Adam Lanza do the heinous things that he did? How could anyone have done such things? Although myriad misguided & half-baked theories have been offered in the year following that morning, the most obvious & likely answer to these questions has been strangely dismissed by most: Adam Lanza was a psychopath.

Don’t the plain, horrible facts insist upon such a conclusion? A doted-upon, well-provided-for youth with no history of traumatically-violent experiences coldly chose—without any direct or indirect provocation—to murder his endlessly-accomodating mother and reams of completely innocent & defenseless young children whom he had no personal nor symbolic vendetta against. Despite these facts, the predominate lament amongst the chattering class following the official report on Sandy Hook remains the same: all of this evidence, but we still don’t know why. How does any committee or consultant or commentator of any kind misinterpret this evidence as anything but dire proof of a psychopathic mind?

Misconceptions of being healthy

I seem to write a lot of posts that talk about my misconceptions of things, and today is no different. In this article I’d like to talk about my experiences in the last 2 months, as I made the decision to try and drop some weight and generally become fitter and healthier.

This is quite a personal blog post and something I’ve been meaning to write for a couple of weeks. Whether it’s of any interest to anyone else is another thing entirely.

I’ve been over-weight for a while; I think probably it really kicked in when I left school to go to college. I stopped doing the sports I was doing at school, and also entered a college environment where in between lessons you could go to the canteen and grab some food, or nip across the road to Pizza Hut or McDonalds. Going from a very strict school environment to that was exciting, and coupled with doing less activity and really getting into programming and development, I probably ate a load more crap food and did a lot less exercise, without really realising it.

Activity in India expanded after three months of contraction as new orders grew for the first time since May, supporting government figures on Friday that suggested an economic slump may have bottomed out.

Purchasing managers’ indexes released on Monday showed the factory sector in Taiwan grew at its fastest pace in 20 months in November and at its fastest in six months in South Korea.

Man Posts ‘Lost Girlfriend’ Flier Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Should Be Accepted To MENSA For It

What do you do when you’re desperate for a girlfriend and, if given the choice, you’d really love for her to look like Hollywood bombshell Scarlett Johansson? Forget Match.com — just put up a “Lost Girlfriend” flier, just like this guy did.

Seriously, this is so brilliant, we kind of wish ScarJo called him up just for kicks (we know, we know, she’s engaged). The +614 hints at Australia being Mr. Smarty Pants’ residence, so … you can afford to call long distance, can’t you, Scarlett?
