Starting this saturday, company websites will need permission to follow a persons actions online. This is according to the European Unions new Privacy controls which require website owners to ask users if they agree or not to have data about them stored online.
Statistics show one fourth of internet users are aware of the new law leaving seventy five percent unaware. The UK announced this new law one year ago to give companies enough time to figure out how they would market to the now ‘protected’ consumer.
Offices all across Europe are being affected and the law will take place permanently in the UK on May 26th, 2012. However, few startups are ignoring the new law altogether labeling it as a “waste of time and resource.”
